TMS Lockdown Message

TMS Lockdown Message

To Torch parents,

We want to inform you that today we investigated a potential threat at Torch Middle School. Following district safety protocols, we immediately notified law enforcement and locked down our campus to ensure the safety of students and staff.

During the lockdown, which lasted from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sheriff’s Department officials reviewed the threat and Torch security conducted a sweep of the campus. At no time during the day were our students in harm’s way.

Out of an abundance of caution, Torch Middle School will employ the following procedures on Thursday, March 28 and Friday, March 29:

  • Students are instructed to leave backpacks at home. Students arriving with backpacks will be directed to the Watanabe Center to be checked in.
  • Students will be released at the end of the day through our structured dismissal process, with classes being dismissed one at a time.

Bassett Unified Superintendent Debra French will be available on campus at 8:15 a.m. Thursday to address any concerns from parents or community members.

I want to thank our students and staff for working collaboratively throughout the day to ensure the safety of all. I would like to especially highlight our cafeteria and security teams, who ensured all students received their lunches.

At Torch Middle School, our priority is to provide a safe and secure learning environment for all our students.

Thank you,
Monica Murray
Principal
